Rushville Community leader Jim O?Connor was named the 1987 Chamber of Commerce Citizen of the Year, and Chris Edrington was presented the Athena award at the Chamber?s annual dinner last night at the new Elk?s lodge. O?Connor was presented the prestigious Citizen of the Year award by Chamber President Tom Grenisen. The Rushville District Manager of Public Service Indiana, O?Connor has been a resident of this community since 1981. He and his wife Sheryl, have two sons, Matthew, 9, and Brandon, 7.
O?Connor is a respected leader within the county and has been involved in a number of civic and community organizations. He is a member and director of the Rushville Rotary Club and a member of the Knights of Columbus. He has served as president of the Rush County United Fund, as well as director of the Chamber of Commerce. With the Chamber, he has chaired and served in several positions with the Chamber Executive Committee. With the Executive Committee, O?Connor has served as vice-president, two terms as president and as advisor to the president.
O?Connor is a member of the Industrial Park Board and an active member of the ?Not for Profit Industrial Development Corporation. He has also taken an active involvement in the Rush County Tee Ball program where his involvement dates back to the league?s conception in 1982. He served both as a volunteer coach and manager of a tee ball team. O?Connor and his family are members of St. Mary Church.
