CollectionsThe Rushville Public Library holds a diverse collection which consists of print and non-print items. For adults, the fiction collection is divided into regular fiction, westerns, mysteries, science fiction, and large print. The children's room fiction is divided into easy (picture) books, primers (beginning readers), and juvenile.
Besides books, the Rushville Public Library has a collection of more than 1000 videocassettes and dozens of DVDs for all ages and tastes. The Library holds nearly 100 magazine titles and subscribes to six newspapers.
For Children, the Rushville Public Library circulates puppets.
Special CollectionsThe Rushville Public Library's Indiana Room is more than just Rush County and Indiana information. It holds various census figures from more than 15 states including New York, Ohio, and Pennsylvania. It includes volumes of marriage, death, and birth records from many other states including the Carolinas, Maryland, Massachusetts, and Georgia. Our Indiana Room also has many books containing immigration and passenger list information, Daughters of the American Revolution publications, and Civil War volumes.
The Indiana Room holds Rush County and Indiana information, too. Our Rush County information includes full histories, census records (1830-1930), marriages, births, cemeteries, and individual histories of various Rush County towns, schools and churches. Other Rush County materials include individual family histories (most of which have been donated to the library), fact sheets which contain family histories and information, and Rushville newspapers on microfilm from about 1889 to today. The Rushville Public Library also holds an extensive file on Wendell Willkie, including election memorabilia, newspaper and magazine articles and pictures.
The remainder of the Indiana Room consists of other information including histories and various vital records of surrounding counties. Also, there are books on Indiana birds, fish, trees, authors, artists, and political figures. Much of the works of James Whitcomb Riley can be found in the Indiana Room, too.
Everyone is welcome to use our Indiana Room. We have welcomed researchers from as far away as California, Texas, Florida, and Virginia! Library staff members answer many queries long distance over the phone, by mail, or email! This service is free, but our library will happily accept donations!
